Lt GEN PRAVEEN BAKSHI, AVSM, VSM

ASSUMES COMMAND OF EASTERN ARMY

 

 

Lt Gen Praveen Bakshi, AVSM, VSM took over as the 25th General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Eastern Command in Kolkata on 01st Aug 2015. An alumnus of National Defence Academy (NDA), Lt Gen Bakshi was commissioned into Skinner’s Horse regiment and has rich operational and command experience. Several other important positions held by him include the command of an armoured brigade in the Western sector, a division in the Desert Sector, and a Corps in Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir. The Eastern Command has its territorial jurisdiction in West Bengal and over all the eight north-eastern states, including Sikkim. It is responsible for the Borders with Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, Myanmar and Nepal.

 

The OSD to Hon’ble Lt. Governor informs us that Lt Gen Praveen Bakshi has served under the Lt. Governor on many occasions and is highly regarded for his professionalism and dynamic approach. Lt Gen Bakshi is tipped to succeed Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag as Indian Army’s next Chief in January 2017. Out of the present top brass of the Indian Army, most have served in the team of Lt Gen A K Singh when he was GOC Strike1 and GOC-in-C Southern Command. These include the Vice Chief of Army Staff, Army Commander’s of Western, South Western, Eastern, Strategic Forces and Army Training Command’s.

 

 

 

 

ANIPMT-2015

The Andaman & Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS), Port Blair, which is due to start  its first year MBBS classes w.e.f. 1st September, 2015, has taken the first step by conducting the Andaman Nicobar Islands Pre-Medical Test (ANIPMT-2015) successfully on 02nd August, 2015. Totally, 900 candidates had registered for the ANIPMT, out of which 858 candidates appeared for the test, which was conducted at two venues, namely, JNRM College, Port Blair and Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1, Port Blair. The examination was completed successfully without any untoward incident. Around 125 personnel, apart from 50 security personnel were engaged to ensure free and fair conduction of the ANIPMT -2015. ANIIMS, on behalf of Andaman and Nicobar Adminstration, thanks all the candidates and their parents for the cooperation received in conduction of ANIPMT-2015. Inconvenience caused, if any, is regretted. ANIIMS also thanks the Principals and staffs of JNRM College, Port Blair and Kendriya Vidyalaya -1, Port Blair for their efforts and cooperation in smooth conduction of the first ever ANIPMT in the islands.
