Press Release

“Be confident in life and marshal your thoughts

in a proper manner”, LG tells JNRM students

Port Blair, September 02: About 44 Home Science students of JNRM, along with their Principal, Dr. Iqbal Ahmed and faculty member Shri K Venkatesan visited Raj Niwas today to have a glimpse of the official residence-cum-office of the Hon’ble Lt Governor. Later, they interacted with the Lt Governor, who spent some time with the students and shared his views on the development initiatives being undertaken in the Islands in various fronts.

Most of the students said they are fascinated to see the eco-walk, gardens, ornamental & medicinal plants and other attractions of Raj Niwas. A few of them said they were delighted and are very fortunate to interact with the Lt Governor. This visit has provided them the opportunity to see how the highest office of the Administration functions, they said. The Lt Governor urged them to be more confident and develop communication skills for their all round personality development. “Be confident in your life and learn to marshal your thoughts in a proper manner”, the LG told students. He also blessed the students for a bright future.

The students used the opportunity to draw the attention of the Hon’ble Lt Governor to issues ranging from opening of M.Sc (Home Science) course, plying of more STS buses in the JNRM route, repair and renovation of classrooms/laboratory and creation of more job opportunities.

The Lt Governor issued directions to the Principal to workout proposal for opening of MSc (Home Science) course in JNRM from next year onwards. On the issue of creation of more job opportunities, the Lt Governor said while the Administration is trying to create maximum job opportunities, it is not possible for the government to provide Govt jobs to each and every individual. It is, therefore, necessary that people should come forward to form self-help groups and develop the spirit of free enterprise. The local youth should not be afraid to venture out and look for jobs in mainland, he observed. He also touched upon important issues like opening of medical college and improving tele-communication and connectivity network in the Islands etc.

“I was really excited to meet him and got to know from him so much about the Islands, especially the initiatives taken up by him for the all round development of the Islands, said Asha Mol, a student of JNRM. “It was a great feeling to meet the Lt Governor. I only see him in newspapers and TV and never imagined meeting him’, said Pooja, another student.

For A Elangovan, a Home Science student of JNRM, visiting Raj Niwas and interacting with the Hon’ble Lt Governor face to face was a unique and fascinating experience. "What attracted me about our Lt Governor is his humility. In the beginning we were quite nervous, but gradually, the nervousness faded away as he made everyone of us feel comfortable during the interactive session”, he said. “For me, it was one of the happiest movements of my life, said an elated Shilpa Singh, another JNRM student, who has seen Raj Niwas for the first time.

From getting a glimpse of the Raj Niwas campus to taking a close look at the photographs of former LG’s and interaction with the Hon’ble Lt Governor,  it was a worthwhile and memorable visit for the students.
