LG reviews shipping arrangements in

view of forthcoming summer vacation

 

        The Hon’ble Lt Governor reviewed today at Raj Niwas the important issues regarding shipping especially with respect to the availability of mainland vessels in view of the forthcoming summer vacation. He directed that a case should immediately be taken up with the Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) to ensure availability of maximum mainland vessels in the forthcoming vacation season to ensure smooth transfer of passengers to and from mainland. The SCI may be requested to adjust/ reschedule their APS schedules/ repair works to ensure maximum availability during the forthcoming peak season.

 

        He also directed that similarly adequate Inter Island vessels should be provided for the people of other Islands to travel to mainland during vacation period, for which again adequate coordination with the SCI must be carried out as they are the Technical Manager for the Mainland and Inter Island vessels. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Make available basic minimum facilities

to tourists at Viper Island - LG

 

        Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands in a meeting at Raj Niwas reviewed the facilities for tourists at Viper Island and desired that basic minimum facilities like toilets/urinals, seating facilities etc. should be made available.

 

        Further it was informed that a plan for Viper Island has been drawn by APWD in conformity with the views of Heritage Committee and will be finalized in consultation with the stake holders.

 

        A team of officials from Tourism & APWD will be undertaking a field visit to Viper Island on 04th March 2015, to inspect the present arrangements for tourists and provide the basic minimum requirements.

 

        After the unfortunate boat tragedy on 26.01.2014, the boat services for Viper Island were stopped due to shortage of boats and the services were resumed almost after one year on 26.02.2015.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Flea Market on Mar 7

 

        The Tourism Department of A&N Administration is organizing “Flea Market” again on 07th March, 2015, at Marina Park, from 4 pm to 10 pm by the support of Individuals, Cultural Associations, Self help groups, NGOs etc. with the sole motto of promoting the local cultural, cuisine, art & handicraft etc as unique tourism produced of the islands and also to encourage the participation of the local towards promotion of tourism in A & N Islands.  The Department of Tourism is also encouraging applications from sports person like roller skaters, mini golf, during the event at Marina Park.

 

        The Flea Market will have separate corners like kid’s corner, food corner, information corner, fun games, art and handicrafts corner etc. Participants can exchange or sell personal goods and belongings like books, Music CD’s, Cloths, small furniture, accessories, Jewellery, appliances, crockery, decorative items, hand paintings, utility products, homemade local pickels/masala items etc.

 

        To make the event truly a relaxing, rejuvenating weekend festival applications are invited from interested participants to collect the participations form and terms and conditions from Directorate of Tourism or can down load it from the official website www.and.nic.in, Tel No 03192-244081. The filled in application form should reach to this office on or before 5th March till 5 pm.
