Vice President visits Carnic

Lauds courage and resilience of

Nicobarese people after Tsunami

 

 

 

          Car Nicobar, Jan.13: The Vice President of India, Shri M Hamid Ansari has lauded the people of Nicobar for regaining their strength with strong willpower and reconstruct their houses and other infrastructure and bringing their lives back to normalcy after the Tsunami had devastated the Islands ten years ago. It was a great challenge for you to come out from the trauma and start normal life, the Vice President said while addressing the gathering at Passa Beach, here today. The Vice President was accompanied by Smt. Salma Ansari, Lt. Governor A & N Islands, Lt. Gen. A K Singh (Retd.) and other dignitaries on his visit to Car Nicobar as part of his three-day visit to the Islands.

 

        The Vice President said that there is no doubt, Car Nicobar, is a most beautiful Island, having green cover all over and surrounded by clear blue sea. Moreover, its peace loving people are unique and the level of happiness is very high, setting an example for rest of us. The Vice President said that the Tribal Council links the people with the Administration putting forth various demands and needs of the people and the activities to be taken for the development of the area and the welfare of the people. I wish you success in all your endeavours.

 

        The Vice President said that though the people of the Island are far from the mainland, they are close to his heart. He lauded the achievements of the Car Nicobarese in the field of sports and said that he was impressed by the fact that the people give more importance to friendly sports than competition, in their indigenous sports such as wrestling, stick fight etc and said that such uniqueness should be an example for others to follow suit.

 

        The Vice President and Smt. Salma Ansari were presented mementoes by the Vice Chief Captain, Shri Chamberlain Paul on the occasion.

 

        Soon after arrival here, the Vice President visited Air Force Tsunami Memorial and laid wreath there. He visited the Tsunami Memorial at Big Lapathi village and laid wreath there. He also visited the Tsunami Gallery at the Tsunami Memorial Complex there. 

 

        In his address on the occasion, the Lt. Governor highlighted on the various developmental activities that had been undertaken and completed in the Island. These included introduction of a flight, inauguration of District Library, setting up of a cold storage for fisheries and vegetable products, opening of three senior secondary schools and a new stadium to be completed soon. He also highlighted the achievements of the tribal in sports and, in particular, he mentioned about Ms. Deborah, a cyclist of the Island, who secured four gold medals in the recently held Asean Track Cycling event. He expressed his desire to restore the high standard of football among the tribal youth and bring back its past glory.

 

        The Lt. Governor also highlighted the future developmental activities to be taken up in the Island and said that a swimming pool will soon be constructed to train young tribal swimmers. He also expressed happiness that there is uninterrupted electricity supply and cent per cent piped water supply in the Island.

 

        Earlier, Shri Chamberlain Paul welcomed the gathering. The function concluded with a vote of thanks, proposed by Smt. A K Singh (Retd.) has conveyed his appreciation to the people of Andaman Nicobar Islands, all the representatives of PRIs, Tribal Community, the Municipal Council, and all officers of the A&N Administration, and agencies of the Central Government for their wholehearted support and co-operation extended during the visit of the Vice President of India to Andaman & Nicobar Islands, making it a memorable one, a communication from the Secretary (IP) said here today.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Vice President accorded affectionate send off

 

 

 

          Car Nicobar, Jan 13: The Vice President of India, Shri M Hamid Ansari and his wife Smt. Salma Ansari were accorded a befitting send off when they left for mainland this afternoon on completion of their four-day visit to the Islands. The Vice President and his wife were seen-off at the Car Nicobar Airport by the Lt. Governor, Lt. Gen. A K Singh (Retd.), the Chief Secretary, Shri Anand Prakash, the Chief of Staff, A&N Command, Maj Gen P K Siwach, the DGP, Shri Sudhir Yadav, the Deputy Commissioner, Nicobar, Smt. Shakshi Mittal, Vice Chairman, Tribal Council and a host of senior officers from Defence and Civil Administration. Earlier, at the Port Blair airport, the Vice President was seen off by the Member of Parliament, Shri B P Ray, Commander-in-Chief, ANC, Vice Admiral P K Chatterjee and senior officers of the Administration.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Closing ceremony of ITF-2015 on Jan 14

 

        The closing ceremony of Island Tourism Festival-2015 and cultural programme will be held at ITF ground on 14th January, 2015 at 1800 hours. Hon’ble Lt Governor, Lt Gen A. K. Singh (Retd) will be the chief guest and Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray will grace the occasion as guest of honour.

Power suspension

 

        Power supply will remain suspended in some of the areas on 17.01.2015 from 0730 hours to 1630 hours for maintenance of RMUs near Island Niwas, Delanipur & Minnie Bay junction and shifting of Panther-I and Panther-II main transmission line at Attam Pahar.

 

        The areas to be affected by power disruption are Light House, Phoenix Bay, Fisheries jetty area, Anarkali, Delanipur, Quarry Hill, Phongy Kyaung, Foreshore Road, Megapode, Teal House, Horticulture Road, Dollygunj village, Minnie Bay, Lamba Line area,   School Line and part of Old Pahargaon.

 

        If required, half an hour rotational load shedding will be carried out at Port Blair and South Andaman areas on as and when required basis on 17.01.2015 for carrying out the work.
