Parliamentary Standing Committee on

Welfare of SCs & STs arrives on visit

 

        The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes arrived at Port Blair today on a four-day visit to the islands.

 

        The programme of the committee includes meeting with SC/ST Employees Welfare Association of Shipping Corporation of India Ltd, (SCI), discussion with the management of SCI regarding representation of SCs & STs services, meeting with the Chief Secretary and other officials of A&N Administration of UT of A&N Islands regarding socio-economic conditions of SCs & STs in the UT, meeting with SC & ST Employees Welfare Association of India, India Overseas Bank (IOB), discussion with the management of the Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) regarding representation of SCs & STs on services and credit facilities provided by the bank to them, meeting with SC/ST Employees Welfare Association of Syndicate Bank and discussion with the management of Syndicate Bank regarding representation of SCs & STs in service and credit facilities provided by the bank to them.

 

        The committee on completion of visit will leave for mainland on 17.06.2013.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Free training course to un-employed youths

in Tourism & Hospitality at Hyderabad

 

        It is brought to the notice of unemployed youth of these islands who have passed 8^th standard and not completed 28 years of age as on 01.07.2013 can apply for 8 weeks training on Food Production (Catering) and 6 weeks training on Food & Beverage (Restaurant service) at National Institute of Tourism Hospitality Management (NITHM), Hyderabad. This training is on free of cost and stipend will be given to the trainees. The hostel facilities will be arranged by NITHM on nominal charges and the expenditure of Breakfast, Dinner and Hostel charges may be adjusted from the stipend.

 

        This year onwards the transportation charge from Port Blair to Hyderabad and back will be reimbursed by the Directorate of Tourism to the candidates who successfully completed the course and their performance and attendance will be taken into consideration for sanction of reimbursement. Under the influence of moderate to strong South West Monsoon current, strong Southwesterly to westerly wind speed exceeding 45 Kmph and generally rough seas likely along and off Andaman & Nicobar coast. Fishermen are advised to be cautious while venturing into the sea.
