State Planning Board meets

Ensure proper implementation of development schemes

 on ground: LG tells departments

 

 

The 3rd meeting of State Planning Board was held under the chairmanship of the Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM in the conference hall of Raj Niwas here today. The meeting thoroughly discussed achievements of the 11th Five Year Plan and new schemes of Annual Plan-2012-2013, and the 12th Five Year Plan. 

 

Speaking on the occasion, the Lt Governor directed the departments to ensure that all the schemes and projects meant for the welfare of the people are implemented on the ground in right earnest. He stated that the departments must strive to reach at the door step of the people with the welfare schemes rather then people approaching the departments for basic amenities. He further directed the departments for ensuring that all buildings are utilized for the purpose for which these are constructed as mere construction of buildings and not utilizing these assets cannot be justified. He also laid emphasis on proper utilization of the funds for the earmarked purpose. He lauded the PRIs in the Islands and stated that PRIs here are doing commendable works compared to PRIs in other parts of the country. He directed that PRIs must be involved in all areas of development. Describing tourism, fisheries and IT as sectors with ample scope, he stated that what is needed is earnest efforts to tap these vast resources available in these sectors for which a systematic growth pattern has to be adopted, he added.  

 

The Member of Parliament, Shri B.P. Ray also highlighted a number of issues pertaining to the welfare of the people of the Islands for incorporation in the annual plan.

 

The Chairperson, SWAB, Chairperson, PBMC and Zilla Parishad Adhyakshs of South Andaman and N&M Andaman also highlighted various issues concerning their respective areas. 

 

The Chief Secretary, Shri Anand Prakash, senior officers of the Administration and department heads were also present in the meeting.

Fishermen Warning

 

        Under the influence of moderate to strong southwest monsoon current, strong southwesterly wind speed exceeding 45 kmph and generally rough seas likely along and off A&N coast. Fishermen are advised to be cautious while venturing into the sea, according to communication from State Control Room, Directorate of Disaster Management.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Monsoon Festival – 2012

 

Directorate of Tourism in association with Education Department, Art & Culture Department, Port Blair Municipal Council, ANIIDCO and Tourism services providers of this Island is organizing 'Monsoon Festival' for the first time in Andaman & Nicobar Islands. This festival will be celebrated from 22nd June, 2012 to 24th June, 2012. The main venue of this festival will be the Campus of Govt. Girls Sr. Secondary School at Port Blair. The concept behind organizing such festival is to popularize Andaman as a Monsoon destination where one can visit nature at its peak.

 

There will be Musical Nite with live orchestra for all three days from 5.OO p.m to 9.00 p.m. Entry for public is made free. Food Stall/Kiosk with delicious food for food admirer will be made functional at the venue. Water sports activities will be an added attraction during the festival. One can take the ride of Water Scooter, Jet Ski, Speed Boats etc. Directorate of Sports will organize Cycle competition for men and women. Dance/Singing competitions for school children and Singing competition for Govt. Servant are being organized separately in association with Education department during the festival and the winners of these competitions will get a chance to perform live on the concluding day of the festival.

 

Arrangements are also made for issue of learning license, Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) and opening of bank accounts for the youngsters who have attained 18 years of age at the auditorium of Govt Girls Sr. Secondary School. Election Department of A & N Administration is making all efforts to popularize the function in coordination with all lead Banks and Transport Department.

 

Administration has made elaborate arrangements for general public to witness this festival.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Commercial category electric bill payment

 

All the commercial category electricity consumers are informed that due to administrative reasons the collection of electric bill payments have not started through the CSCs w.e.f. June, 2012 onwards as announced earlier by the Electricity department. Hence the commercial category consumers are requested to deposit their electricity bill payments at departmental counter only as usual till further announcement.

 

However, the electricity bills of all the domestic consumers (except the bills with outstanding) of 8 site offices viz. Aberdeen Bazar, Phoenix Bay, Prem Nagar, Haddo, Shadipur, Nayagaon, Dairy Farm and Dollygunj are being collected through CSCs only upto due date on all working days from 8 AM to 8 PM and on Sunday from 8 AM to 1 PM from 10th of every month.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Power disruption

 

        Power supply will remain suspended in some of the areas on 16.06.2012 from 0800 hours to 1200 hours for HT line clearance from Nayasahar junction to near Rubber Plantation subject to weather condition.

 

        Sipighat, Coffee Bagicha, Dhanikhari, Manglutan, Templemyo, Nayasahar, Wandoor, Humphreygunj, Chouldari, Tusnabad and Manpur to Tirur are the areas to be affected by power suspension.

 

        Power supply will also remain interrupted at Baratang, Kadamtala, Rangat, Betapur, Nimbudera, Tugapur and Mayabunder  on 16th June 2012 from 0700 hours to 1300 hours and also on  19th   June 2012 from 0700 hours to 1300 hours at Betapur, Nimbudera, Tugapur and Mayabunder for carrying out urgent line maintenance work at these areas respectively. The interruption will be on feeders emanating from Rangat Bay Power House.
