First Lady reaches out to people

in public hearing at Raj Niwas

Port Blair, September 16: People approaching Raj Niwas to appear before the Hon’ble Lt Governor in the public hearing on Tuesday (16.09.2014) were thrilled and excited to see the First Lady of the Islands, Smt Suneeti Singh, reaching out to them and listening to their grievances and issues. Though the regular public hearing was conducted by the Lt Governor, the First Lady interacted with the women and also listened to their issues and grievances. She also gave suggestions and advice on ways to resolve their issues. For Sumita Dey, and others, who had passed out from JNRM and had come to meet the Lt Governor in the public hearing, it was a unique experience to meet the First Lady and share their grievances with her. While interacting with them, Smt Suneeti Singh suggested to them that besides looking for careers in the teaching profession, they should also opt for careers in other professions so that they can serve their country in a different way.

Smt Zarina Nikhat Islam, an animal activist, who appeared in the public hearing along with her husband, was elated on meeting the First Lady, who heard them patiently. They had come to seek the LG’s intervention in setting up the SPCA for protection & prevention of cruelty against animals. The First Lady suggested that they should organize camps and generate awareness among the people on the issue.

“We are happy to meet the Lt Governor and placed before him our problems. What was more touching is that the First Lady also met us, said Smt Probhati Modal, “I was told to contact the Secretary to LG’s Office, if my work is not done in a time bound manner”, she said. “Whatever the problem may be, our Lt Governor gives patient hearing to everybody appearing in the public hearing and almost all of us return back fully satisfied. So much that even those appearing before him with issues which are difficult to resolve immediately are given a patient hearing, said a delighted Radhika, a resident of New Pahargoan.
