        Attention of General Public is once again drawn towards Operation of some Chit Fund Companies/Non Banking Financial Institutions in these Islands. Such type of companies lure the general public through their agents with a promise of handsome return quoting double & triple returns on their money within a short period.

 

        All are advised to be cautious while investing their hard earned money in these non banking financial institutions and companies. The promises of exorbitantly high lucrative returns may be verified at the first instance and public must ensure the credentials and legality of the institutions before any investment.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Heavy Rainfall Warning

Fisherman Warning

 

        Under the influence of moderate to strong Southwest Monsoon current, strong westerly wind speed exceeding 45 Kmph and generally rough seas likely along and off Andaman & Nicobar coast. Fishermen are advised to be cautious while venturing into the sea. Electricity dept cautions public

 

        It is brought to the notice of the general public and all the consumers of Electricity Department under North Andaman that due to inclement weather conditions repeatedly, the transmission faults are occurring and resulting in heavy disturbances in power supply. The Electricity staff are working round the clock to resume the supply after rectifying the defects. The major faults noticed are entangling of High tension & Low Tension lines due to heavy winds, falling of trees and branches etc. The patrolling staffs are working continuously but work becomes difficult due to rain and high wind velocity.

 

        The consumers are requested to bear with the department and to inform the nearest site office if they observe flash, abnormal sound in electric system so that the technical team can reach and solve the problem.

 

        The falling and snapping of line could be dangerous hence the the citizens are requested that on sighting of such happenings must inform the nearest site offices so that safety measures can be taken. They are requested not to touch or come near the snapped lines and also not to allow other people and cattle etc. to come near the snapped lines.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mock Drill conducted at Port Blair

 

          A Mock exercise scenario was enacted to conduct Mock Drill on a simulated mega Earthquake measuring with it’s epicentre at in Ferrargunj area under South Andaman District measuring 9.1 Momentum wave (Mw) at a depth of 10 Km on 18/06/13 at 0955 hrs (IST). The Tsunami Sirens were blown on receipt of second bulletin depicting Tsunami Waves with wave amplitude of 7 mtrs height hitting coastal areas of Junglighat issued at 1000 hrs (IST) from the State Control Room.

 

        Immediately on the receipt of bulletins, the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration activated the Response Mechanism of Emergency Support Functionaries/Stakeholders i.e. District administration, Police, Health, APWD, Transport etc. for Search and Rescue (SAR), Evacuation, Medical First Response and other support functions as per their Standard Operating Procedures.

 

        The District Administration, South Andaman established Incident Command Post in the District Emergency Operation Centres and Site Operation Centres at Secretariat complex and Junglighat area and coordinated the Rescue and Relief operations. The search and rescue teams of Police and Fire Services rushed to the incident site at Secretariat Annex Building which was simulated to be flattened and another SAR teams deployed by the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman at Junglighat Fish Market and Fish Landing Centre to carry out evacuation process. The Task Forces of APWD cleared the road by shifting of uprooted trees on the road which was blocking flow of traffic. The power supply was disrupted due the effect of earthquake. The Electricity Department restored the power supply after clearing the high tension lines in the nearby site.

 

        157 school children of Junglighat areas were shifted under the supervision of teachers with the support of the Transport Department providing buses to the Refuge Area at ITF Ground. Injured persons were shifted to GB. Pant Hospital on the basis of triage. Other victims of Secretariat Annex Building, Fish Market, Junglighat and Fish Landing Centre were shifted to the Relief Shelters at Rabindra Bangla Vidyalaya and provided basic amenities.

 

        The Chief Secretay accompanied by Commissioner-cum-Secretary (DM&RR), Commr (Transport) , Secretary(Education), and other senior officers of the Administration visited State Control Room and took stock of the situation by visiting the locations and monitored all the functions of the task forces.

 

        Tactical resources such as water tankers, Ambulances, Forklifts, power saws, RCC cutters etc were deployed by the PBMC, APWD, Forest Department etc.

 

        This Mock Drill has been conducted by considering the real time scenario with the absence of communication and power failure like disrupt of Mobile, Landline and e-net. The emergency communication systems such VHF sets and Satellite Phones were used for dissemination of the information. Observers from the Department of Industries, IP&T, DBRAIT, AH&VS, Disaster Management and NGO  were engaged for monitoring the activities of task forces, District Control Room, Relief Shelters and Hospital.  The mock exercise concluded at 11.15 AM with all clear message from the State Control Room.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Governing body of DRDA meets

 

        The 20th Governing Body Meeting of District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), South Andaman, was held under the Chairmanship of the Chairman, DRDA, South Andaman (Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad) Smt. Abala Samaddar on18/06/2013 at 10.30 AM in the Conference Hall of Zilla Parishad, South Andaman. The Chairperson, State Social Welfare Advisory Board, Pramukhs, Pradhans, Executive Director, DRDA, South Andaman, Lead District Manager, SBI, Asstt. General Manger, NABARD also attended the meeting. In the meeting, physical and financial achievements made under the SGSY and the lAY Schemes for the year 2012-13 were reviewed.

 

        Under Indira Awaas Yojana (lAY), 255 beneficiaries will be assisted for the construction of new houses during 2013-14. The lAY beneficiaries will be released an additional amount of Rs.3700/- under Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan for construction of the sanitary latrine in addition to the unit cost of Rs.75.000/-. It was informed by the Executive Director, DRDA, South Andaman that the SGSY Scheme will not be in operation w.e.f 2013-14 and, in its place, a new Scheme viz. National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) will come into effect from 2013-14 onwards. It was decided to make all out efforts to achieve the targets fixed under IAY for the year 2013-14. The targets under NRLM will be fixed after allocation of fund by the Ministry.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Subsidy to fishers for purchase of Deep Freezers

 

        The Department of Fisheries, A&N Administration invites applications from the fishers of A & N Islands possessing valid license for atleast 01 (one) year apart from the current year for availing the subsidy for purchase of new Deep Freezer under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY). The scheme envisages providing of subsidy @ 50% of the actual cost of Deep Freezer subject to a maximum of Rs. 20,000/- per Deep Freezer of 500 ltrs capacity. The beneficiaries are also eligible for re-imbursement of the transportation cost of Deep Freezer from Port Blair to the place of residence of the beneficiary at the rates approved by the Department. The beneficiaries who have already availed the subsidy during past five years shall not be eligible for the assistance during 2013-14.

 

        Application form and detailed terms & conditions of the scheme can be obtained from the Directorate of Fisheries/Fisheries Zonal Offices, Fisheries Sub-Offices/Panchayat Samity’s. The completed applications may be submitted to the concerned Fisheries Zonal Offices/Fisheries Sub-Offices/Panchayat Samity’s on or before 15.07.2013. Construction of Nursery Ponds

 

        The Department of Fisheries, A&N Administration invites applications from farmers/individuals from A&N Islands for construction of Nursery Ponds and purchase of breeding materials for freshwater fish seed production under the RKVY scheme during 2013-14.

 

        The scheme envisages providing 50% subsidy subject to a maximum of Rs. 24,000/- for construction of Nursery pond of size 10x 10x 1.5 mtr and purchase of one set breeding materials. The maximum subsidy for construction of nursery pond of size 10 x 10 mtr at surface, 5.5 x 5.5 mtr at bottom and depth of 1.5 mtr with a slope of 1:1.5 would be Rs. 9,000/- whereas a maximum of Rs. 15,000/- will be provided for purchase of one set of breeding materials including 05 Breeding happas. 15 Hatching happas (outer & inner each), 01 Fry collection net, 05 vials (10 nil each) of inducing agents (Ovaprim/Ovatide). The Assistance will be available only for construction of new ponds.

 

        The applicant should be holding a clear title of the land on which the nursery pond is proposed to be constructed and if the land is on lease, the lease deed should be for a minimum period of 05 (five) years. The subsidy assistance would be extended for construction of upto 02 (two) nursery ponds and purchase of maximum 02 (two) set of breeding materials.

 

        Application forms can be obtained from all the Fisheries Zonal Offices/Fisheries Sub-Offices/Panchayat Samitis and interested fish farmers may submit the filled-in application with relevant documents to the nearest Fisheries Zonal Offices/Fisheries Sub- Offices/Panchayat Samitis on or before 15.07.2013. Subsidy to fishers for purchase of Insulated Ice Boxes

 

        The Department of Fisheries, A&N Administration invites applications from the licensed fisher holding registered traditional/ motorized/mechanized fishing vessel and possessing valid fishing license atleast for the last 01 (one) year apart from the current year or Registered Fisheries Cooperative Society/Federation/Self Help Group engaged in fishing activity/retail marketing of fish for availing subsidy for the purchase of Insulated Ice Boxes under the RKVY scheme Supply of Insulated Ice Boxes on subsidy to fishers” during 2013-14.

 

        The scheme envisages subsidy @ 50% of the actual cost of the Insulated lce Box subject to a maximum of Rs. 10,000/- per Insulated Ice Box of 150 ltrs or 200 ltrs to 700 ltrs capacity. Applicants engaged in retail marketing of fish can avail subsidy for purchase of maximum of 02 Nos. of Insulated Ice Boxes of maximum 150 ltrs capacity and those engaged in fishing activity are eligible to avail subsidy for maximum of 04 Nos. of Insulated Ice Boxes having capacity of 200 ltrs to 700 ltrs. The beneficiaries who have already availed the subsidy during past five years are not eligible during 2013-14.

Subsidy to fishers for purchase of freshwater

fish harvesting nets

 

        The Department of Fisheries, A&N Administration invites applications from the fish farmers of A&N Islands for availing subsidy for purchase of freshwater fish harvesting net under the RKVY scheme during 2013-14. The scheme envisages 50% subsidy subject to a maximum of Rs. 9,000/- for purchase of one fish harvesting net made of nylon webbing of size (210/3/3), fitted with head and foot rope, PVC floats, lead sinker, with 5O% required hanging of length not less than 200 ft, width 20 ft and mesh size of 1 inch.

 

        The Assistance will be available only for fresh purchase. The applicant should be holding a clear title of the land on which the pond is located and if the land is on lease, the lease deed should be for a minimum period of 05 (five) years. The pond should be in use for stocking of fresh water fish/prawn atleast for last(1) one year including current year.
