National Integration Camp inaugurated

Youth can take the country to higher glory

and prosperity in the 21st century: LG

 

          Port Blair, August 18: The 6-day long National Integration Camp got underway with its formal inauguration by the Lt Gen AK Singh, (Retd), Lt Governor of A&N Islands at DBRAIT auditorium on 17.08.2014. Organized by the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sanghatan, Andaman & Nicobar Region, about 250 youth from different parts of the country are participating in the camp.

 

        Addressing them, the Lt Governor said that the future of our country depends on our youth as they are the ones who will take the country to greater heights. He complimented the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sanghatan, A&N Region for organizing the camp which aims at promoting brotherhood and developing leadership qualities among the youth. “I can, I shall, I will”, should be the motto of the youth of the 21st Century and this mantra will undoubtedly take our country to higher glory and prosperity, he observed.  “You (youth) are the leaders and the future of our country and each one of you will have to play an important role in the growth and progress of this great Nation”, the LG said.  Another philosophy of life, he said is at the end of the day ask yourself that have you given more than you received to your parents, family, society and the Country, he said.

 

        He observed that in order to make our youth good citizens of the country, it is imperative that qualities such as leadership skills, team spirit, decision making and communication skills needs to be developed in the youth. This can be done by providing them opportunities to participate in such youth camps, where they can sharpen their talents and learn through interaction, he said.

 

        He further said that the A&N Islands truly exemplifies a “Mini India”, as people from different parts of the country and different religions live in perfect harmony and reflects the true spirit of our Constitution. The Island has indeed set an example of unity in diversity worth emulation by others, he said. “Carry this message that the A & N Islands is a reflection of true India when you go back to your States, he told the participants. He further said that it is in this context, this camp is apt and timely and added that harmony and integration is the need of the hour which is crucial for the progress and development of the country in all fronts.

 

        While talking about the present situation of the country, the Lt. Governor appraised the gathering about the Independence Day speech of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. He said that the Prime Minister has given a clear vision and touched upon basic issues for the development of the Country. The Lt Governor urged the organizers to cover the speech of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India during the camp to enable the students to listen and work towards developing a new and vibrant India.  

   

        Lauding the organizers for conducting the camp, the Lt. Governor suggested that during such camps they should also take-up issues of environment and cleanliness in a practical manner. 

 

        The Lt Governor ended his vibrant and thought provoking speech by reminding the youth, “Remember not just what the country can do for us; but also remember what we can and should do for the country.”

 

        Speaking as the guest of honour, the Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray appreciated the efforts made by the organizers to conduct the camp in which the youth from Sikkim to A&N Islands are participating. Camps of such type will enable the youth of these Islands to interact with their counterpart from mainland. The new Govt is putting its best effort towards developing entrepreneurs and giving thrust on skill development programmes to provide employment to youth. Our country will march in the path of peace and harmony in which the youth have to a play a major role, the MP added.

 

        In his key note address, the Zonal Director NYKS, West Bengal, Shri S.K Bhattacharya said that youth of different states participating in the camp will be able to know the culture of these Islands. He informed that about 250 youth from different part of the country in the age group of 13 to 35 years are participating in the camp. The visiting youth participants of the camp presented an impressive cultural programme depicting the vibrant cultural heritage of our country.

 

        Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, Shri P. Jawahar welcomed the chief guest and others present on the occasion while the function concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by the District Youth Co-ordinator, NYK, Shri Kundan Lal.
