LG discusses development of sports infrastructure

 in islands with Sports Minister in New Delhi

 

        Lt Gen. A.K. Singh, (Retd), Hon’ble Lt.Governor met the Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Sports, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal in New Delhi on 18 November 2014. Various issues relating to development of Sports and sports infrastructure were discussed, including revamping of SAI Centre at Port Blair.  The Hon’ble Minister assured the Hon’ble Lt.Governor of all possible help in this regard and indicated that he would be visiting the Islands. Hon’ble Lt.Governor, at the outset, had appraised him about the Islands and the achievements of the sports persons of the Islands and the various ongoing issues including the A&N State Olympic Association.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Hoteliers briefed on security measures

 

        A meeting with the local Hoteliers of Port Blair area was held in the conference Hall of SP(D)SA office in which 36 Hotels owners/representatives attended. Shri. Atul Kumar Thakur, IPS, Superintendent of Police (CID)/FRO highlighted the issue of sending the ‘C’ Form of foreigners within 24 hours either through online mode or manually. He also mentioned that the latest photograph of the foreigner is to be sent/uploaded along with the ‘C’ Form. The hotel owners were also advised to disseminate information regarding antisocial elements and precaution to be taken regarding suspected persons/foreigners. The issue regarding Ebola virus was also discussed. The Hotel Owners were also advised to ensure police verification of all employees working in the Hotels. The matter regarding ‘Bed & Breakfast’ was also discussed. Shri Shibesh Singh, IPS Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District also expressed his views regarding the importance of the IVFRT (Immigration, Visa, Foreigners Registration & Tracking) and its significance in monitoring the movement of foreigners and other details relating to foreigners visiting these islands. He also suggested that the Hoteliers should install CCTV in their Hotels which not only helps the hotel owner but also the law enforcing agency.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Renowned Qawwal Warsi Brothers to perform on Nov. 22

 

        Renowned Qawwal Warsi Brothers will perform on 22nd November 2014 at ITF Ground during Virasat – a Cultural Festival being organized by the Department of Art & Culture on 22nd and 23rd November 2014 at ITF Ground at 6 p.m. in association with INTACH, Cultural organizations, Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre and Department of Tourism. Warsi Brothers, Grandsons of Padamshree Aziz Ahmed Khan Warsi are famous Indian Qawwals consisting of brothers Nazeer and Naseer Ahmed Khan Warsi, along with accompanists. Their ancestors were royal classical singers of King Nizam of Hyderabad and the Mughal Court. They are recognised specially for their traditional Sufiana Qawwali, Ghazal, Thumri, Bhajan and Classical Bandish Warsi Brothers jointly received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for their Contribution to Qawwali. During the two-day festival, a choreographic presentation by artists of these islands will be presented on 22nd November 2014 before the Qawali presentation. Flea Market would also be organized by the Department of Tourism as an additional attraction during the two-day cultural festival.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Public grievances

 

        It has been noticed that all the complaints/grievances related to GB Pant Hospital are always brought to the notice of the Director of Health Services directly. It is informed that a Senior Administrative Grade Officer has already been posted as Medical superintendent, GB Pant Hospital. Therefore, any grievances/complaints related to GB Pant Hospital shall be brought to the notice of the Medical Superintendent, GB Pant Hospital, Port Blair first, who in turn will take appropriate action to redress the same, Directorate of Health Services press release said here today.
