LG condoles death

 

        The Lt. Governor, A & N Islands, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM has condoled the untimely demise of Shri K.N. Suresh, President, Hotel and Restaurant Association, Port Blair.  His visionary approach always aimed at overall development and welfare of the islands recalled the Lt. Governor. He was a known social activist and was instrumental in creating social harmony and promoting awareness amongst the islanders to pursue higher and professional education through Distance Education programme. In recognition of his outstanding contribution in the field of education and social work, Lieutenant Governor’s Commendation was also awarded to Shri KN Suresh in 2012 on Independence Day.

 

 

 

 

 

 

HDPE Floating Jetty for Seaplane Inaugurated at Havelock

 

        The Chief Secretary, A & N Administration inaugurated the newly constructed HDPE Floating Jetty at Havelock at 12 P.M. today the 20th May, 2013. With this facility, Seaplane can now be parked close to the shore at HDPE floating Jetty and the passengers can directly board the Seaplane by using the HDPE walkway.

 

        The Seaplane services was introduced in A & N Islands on 30th December, 2010 by inducting a Cessna Caravan 208 Amphibian Seaplane on wet-lease from M/s MEHAIR (P) Ltd., with this land mark achievement the A & N Administration became the first in India to operate Seaplane services. Following the footprints many other States like Maharashtra, Kerala, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Goa are now planning to introduce Seaplane services in their respective states. The Services run by the Administration has proved to be very successful. So far nearly 25000 Passengers availed the services, out of which 6500 were tourists.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Fisherman Warning

 

Port Blair, May 20, 2013: Under the influence of moderate to strong Southwest monsoon over Andaman Sea, strong south westerly wind speed exceeding 45 Kmph and generally rough seas likely along and off Andaman & Nicobar coast. Fishermen are advised to be cautious while venturing into the sea.

 

Weather forecast valid until morning of Wednesday 22nd May 2013. The general public is advised to take precautionary measures and in case of any emergency contact in the following numbers of State Control room, District Control room and Emergency Operation Centers.

Power suspension

 

        Power supply will remain suspended in some of the areas on 21.05.2013 from 0700 hours to 1200 hours for urgent maintenance work on T&D system and replacement of damaged cross arm at Garacharma.

 

        The areas to be affected by power disruption are Sipighat, Teylarabad, Bimblitan, Manjeri, Guptapara, Manglutan, Wandoor, Chouldari, Tushnabad, Port Mout, Tirur, Templemyo, Ograbraj,Mithakhari, Namunaghar, Dunduspoint & Hathi Tapu.
