LG felicitates Class XII toppers of different streams

Institutes two trophies for excellence in academic and sports

 

The Lt. Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM today felicitated the first five toppers of Science, Commerce, Humanities and Vocational streams of Class XII examination for the academic year 2011-2012. At a function organized under the aegis of Education Department at Raj Niwas here today, the Lt. Governor gave away medals and certificates of merit to these toppers and trophies to the best schools of the Islands. He also presented Late Ajay Mathew Gold Medal to Kumari Mano Subhashini of Carmel SS School, 1st topper of AISSCE-2012, who scored 96.60 % mark. He also gave away rolling trophies and merit certificates to the best performing schools in rural and urban areas.

 

Earlier, only first five students used to be felicitated and toppers of other streams used to be left out as generally higher marks are secured in the Science stream. For the first time, five toppers each from Science, Commerce, Humanities and Vocational streams have been awarded medal and certificate of merits.  The five students from Science stream are Kumari Mano Subhashini, 1st position with 96.60 %, Kumari Sumon Betal, 2nd position with 96.40%, Kumar Daivik Saha, 3rd position with 95.80%, Kumar A. Abinesh Mohan, 4th position with 95.60% and Kumar Abhay Kumar Pandey, 5th position with 95%. The students from Commerce stream are Kumari Zeenat Mohd. Jadwet, 1st position with 96%, Kumari Farheen, 2nd position with 93.40 %, Kumari Durgasi Vijaya and Kumari Sumitra Minj, both 3rd position with 90.80%, Kumari  K. Deepa and Kumari Joshya Sethi, both 4th position with 89.80 % and Kumari M. Afsa, 5th positon with 89.60 %. The five toppers in Humanities stream are Kumari Sudarsan Dakua, 1st position with 88.40 %, Kumari K. Jhansi Rani, 2nd position with 87. 80 %, Kumari Rihana Banu, 3rd position with 87.40 %, Kumari J. Bharthi and Kumari Sreya Majumder, both 4th position with 87 % and Kumar Rabin Biwas, 5th position with 86.60 %. The five toppers in Vocational stream are Kumari Shena Goswami, 1st position with 90.60 %, Kumari V Aravind kumar, 2nd position with 81. 20 %, Kumari Vishal Singh, 3rd position with 81 %, Kumari V Thamil Selvi, 4th position with 80.80 % and Kumari Ruheena Barla, 5th position with 79.60 %.

 

Similarly, Navy Children School, Minnie Bay was awarded the best Senior SS School-2012 (Urban), JNV Panchawati, Rangat as the best SS School-2012 (Rural), Govt. SS School, Neil Kendra as the best school of the Administration in South Andaman District, Govt. SS School, Rangat, Middle Andaman as the best Senior SS School of the Administration in North & Middle Andaman and Govt. SS School, Campbell Bay as the best School of the Administration in Nicobar District.    

     

Addressing the gathering, the Lt. Governor congratulated the meritorious students for their hard work and achieving good results in the academic subjects and lauded the efforts of the teachers, schools and parents for the excellent results achieved by the students. “We are proud that our students have excelled in all the streams in class XII and achieved good results”, he said and added that “our students are among the best in the country”. 

 

He further stated that the Administration is constantly striving to provide better facilities in terms of transportation, laboratory and basic amenities in schools for the students so that all students can get equal opportunity and excel in academics. He informed that from next academic year onwards two more trophies would be introduced i.e. best school in academics and best school in sports and instructed the Education department to evolve a proper system based on the performance of the students to determine the excellence of the school. Such a system will further encourage healthy competition among the schools and students to do well both in sports and academics, he said. 

   

The Chief Secretary, Chairperson-PBMC, Chairperson- SSWB, Adhyaksh Zilla Parishad (SA), Smt Rupa Ray, senior officers of the Administration and Education department, students and their parents were also present on the occasion.

 

Earlier, the programme began with the welcome address by the Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Education), Shri B.S. Bhalla. He said the felicitation of the Class XII toppers will encourage and instil confidence among other students to do well in academics. The function concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by the Director of Education, Shri Dev Das.

Tsunami siren to be tested at P.S. Aberdeen on June 22

 

 

It is brought to the notice of general public residing in Port Blair that a Tsunami Warning Siren has been installed temporarily at Police Station Aberdeen and shall be put on test on Friday (22nd June 2012) at 11.30 hours to check its functioning and coverage range. The people of the area especially those residing in Aberdeen Bazaar, Atlanta Point, Dignabad, Phoenix Bay, Marine, Junglighat, Machi Line etc. are requested not to panic once the siren/Tsunami warning system is put on test/trial on 22nd June (Friday) at l1.30 hours.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Road to remain closed

 

The road from traffic point near Govt. Girls Senior Secondary School to JNRM Junction will remain closed for all vehicular traffic for the period from 22.06.2012 to 24.06.2012 from 2.00 P.M. to 9.00 P.M. for smooth movement of commuters in view of Monsoon Festival at Govt. Overhaul of DG set at CPH

 

It is brought to the notice of the consumers, general public and Government departments that the major overhauling of Unit No. IV, 2.5 MW Bergen DG Set at Chatham Power House was long due. The service engineer from Bergen Engines India Pvt. Limited, New Delhi has arrived on 20.6.2012 to carry out major overhauling. The shortage of power occurred due to the non-availability of this set will be adjusted by exercising rotational load shedding in the peak hours if necessary, in and around Port Blair and South Andaman area till the overhauling work is completed. The major overhauling processes will start from 21.6.2012 and it will take at least three weeks time.
