LG sanctions boiled eggs to increase the nutritional value of mid day meal

 

 

To increase the nutritional value of classroom meals, the Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM has sanctioned boiled eggs twice a week to all children covered under the mid day meal scheme in the Islands from the academic session 2012-2013. The addition of boiled eggs will increase the nutritional value of the mid day meal provided to the school children in the islands. Children enrolled in the Pre-Primary/Primary/Upper Primary stages of schools run by Administration, Administration-aided and schools run by Zilla Parishad/PRIs will be benefitted under the scheme. About 43,000 students across the Islands will be benefitted and an amount to the tune of Rs 180 lakhs is likely to be incurred as expenditure.

 

     As per MHRD norms, noon meal is provided to each student on each working day comprising Rice, Dal and Vegetables having nutritional value. The Mid Day Meal Scheme is one of the National level flagship programmes of MHRD, GOI to boost the universalization of Elementary Education. The main objective of the scheme is to address classroom hunger and encourage poor children belonging to disadvantage group to attend school regularly and to improve nutritional status of the children in class I-VIII in schools.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

LG sanctions additional relief for complete treatment of Mohd. Shoaib

 

 

To complete the medical treatment of Mohd. Shoaib who was electrocuted at Bambooflat while grazing goats the Lt. Governor had sanctioned one lakh rupees to his family in September 2011 and  Rs. 1,52,800/- during February 2012 for his medical treatment.  Another Rs. 2,42,000/- has been sanctioned by the Lt. Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM from out of Lt. Governor’s relief fund towards his third round of medical treatment. The amount has been paid to the hospital where he is undergoing medical treatment to facilitate his complete recovery.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Monsoon Festival - 2012

 

'Monsoon Festival' is being organized for the first time in Andaman & Nicobar Islands which will be celebrated from 22nd June, 2012 to 24th June, 2012. Venue of this festival is scheduled at Govt. Girls Sr. Secondary School Campus, Port Blair. The Concept behind organizing such festival is to popularize Andaman as a Monsoon destination where one can visit nature at its peak.

 

Live Musical Orchestra and live Police Band concert for all three days will be organized from 5.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. on 22nd June at 4.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. On 23rd and 24th June,2012 apart from offering Adventure Water Sports (water Scooter, Jet Ski, Speed Boats etc) near Marina Park for general public. Delicious food stalls/Kiosk are placed at the venue for food lovers which will be opened from 3.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. on all days.

 

Education department is organizing Singing competitions for School Children and Govt. Officials at the School Auditorium on 23/6/2012 from 10.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. Spot entry for such competitions will also be entertained. Winners of these competitions will be allowed to perform live on stage on the closing day on 24/6/2012.

 

Cycle competition for men and women is an added attraction which will be organized at the vicinity of Netaji Stadium on 23/6/2012 from 6.00 a.m. to 7.00 a.m. Participants can register their name to Art & Culture department at Netaji Stadium.

 

Election Department of the A & N Administration has made elaborate arrangements for issue of Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC), Driving learning license and opening of Bank accounts for the youngsters who have attained 18 years of age at the auditorium of Govt. Girls Sr. Secondary School.

 

The festival will declare open at 5.00 p.m. on 22/6/2012 at the main venue and Administration has made elaborate arrangements for general public to witness this festival.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Power disruption

 

        Power supply will remain suspended in some of the areas on 23.06.2012 from 0800 hours to 1300 hours for replacement of damaged pole at Japan Nallah.

 

        The areas to be affected by power disruption are Corbyn’s Cove, Austinabad, Science Centre, Japan Nallah, Brookshabad, Bird Line, Brichgunj, Calicut, Kanraj Nagar, Beodnabad, Rangachang, Burmanallah and Chidiyatapu.
