Carriage by Road Act/Rules

 

        In order to streamline the process of transportation trade by road to meet the modern day requirements Ministry of Road Transport Highways has enacted the Carriage by Road Act 2007 replacing the old Act i.e. ”The Carriers Act,1865”.

 

        As per Section 3 of the Act, no person can engage in the business of a common carrier unless he has been granted a certificate of registration to do so and transportation of goods by unregistered common carriers is illegal.

 

        “Common Carrier” means a person engaged in the business of collecting , storing, forwarding or distributing goods to be carried by goods carriage under a goods receipt or transporting for hire of goods from place to place by motorized transport or road, for all persons undiscriminatingly and includes a goods booking company, contractor, agent, broker and courier agency engaged in the door-to -door transportation of documents, goods or articles utilizing the services of a person, either directly or indirectly to carry or accompany such documents, goods or articles, but does not include the Government.”

 

        In order to implement the provisions laid down under the Carriage by Road Act/Rules in UT of Andaman & Nicobar Islands any person who is engaged or intends to engage in the business of common carrier, whether wholly or partly, shall apply for grant or renewal of a Certificate of  registration for carrying on the  business of common carrier to the Registering Authority i.e. State Transport Authority (STA), Directorate of Transport, A&N Administration, Port Blair,  immediately. ‘Khoob Mazaa Aaya’- play by children on Aug. 23

 

        The Department of Art and Culture, A&N Administration is organizing a week long Children Theatre workshop at Port Blair from 17th-23rd August 2014 under the guidance of Shri Pankaj Saxena, Co-ordinator, Children’s Theatre, National School of Drama. About 18 children are taking part in it. The valedictory function of the workshop will be held at Andaman Club at 5 p.m on 23rd August 2014 wherein children will stage play “Khoob Mazaa Aaya” which has been evolved  by them. The play will also be staged at Ummat Public School at 1 p.m and DIET, Garacharma at 2 p.m before the valedictory function.
