LG visits Diglipur; takes on the spot decisions

 to mitigate local issues

 

        The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd.) A K Singh, today visited Diglipur and took on the spot decisions to solve the problems of the general public there. Soon after arrival, the Lt Governor visited the administrative building and met the govt. officials. Thereafter, the Lt Governor inspected the Community Health Centre, Diglipur and interacted with the patients in general ward and also inspected the kitchen. During his visit to CHC, the Lt Governor directed the Health Department to make necessary arrangements for regular visits by Gynecologists and other specialists.

 

        The Secretary (Health) has been asked to appoint Dental Surgeon immediately. It was pointed by the general public that the students who get medical seats from the Administration do not come back to serve these islands. Lt Governor asked the Chief Secretary to prepare a policy whereby candidates sponsored by the Administration for higher studies serve in the Islands for atleast 5 years.

 

        Lt Governor also held a meeting with PRI members at APWD Guest House. He directed the Secretary Power to immediately look into the power related issues in Diglipur area.

 

        The Secretary (Power) assured that about 300 electric poles will be transported by road within one week to solve the infrastructure problem. To resolve load shedding during peak hours, he assured that one DG set of 1.5 Mega watts will be commissioned. Minimum staff strength of Electricity Department will be increased and sanctioned posts filled up. For the best use of NHPC generated power energy, three Sub Stations were proposed at Parangara, Sitanagar and Kalara Junction.

 

        Regarding the drinking water issue the Lt Governor directed the PRIs & APWD to work on the check dam project. He also instructed the APWD to start Drinking water Project (Ring Well) in Gandhinagar & Shantinagar villages as per demand of the area. The Executive Engineer, APWD was directed to speed up the project of Khudirampur water project. Chief Secretary was asked to resolve the issue of RO Plants with the PRIs.  

 

        Regarding regular bus services for Port Blair, the Transport Department informed that STA has given permission to a private transporter to provide night service from Diglipur to Port Blair to reach in time for the first convoy at Baratang. Similarly, bus service facility has been permitted to provide for last convoy from Port Blair to Diglipur at Jirkatang.

 

        Regarding shortage of teaching staff, the Education Director assured that by July first week 141 PST and 86 GTT will be deployed in Andaman & Nicobar Islands and priority will be given to remote areas.

 

        The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Anand Prakash, PCCF, Secretary (Power) accompanied the Lt Governor during his visit to Diglipur.
