Utsav week-end Mela

 

        The Department of Tourism is organizing Utsav weekend Mela again on 2nd November 2014 at Marina Park from 4 pm to 10 pm. The main objective is to encourage people’s participation in the tourism related activities so that it is community based besides encouraging traditional artisans and the handicraft sector. The “Utsav-weekend mela will have separate corners i.e. Art &  Handicrafts, fun games, information corner, kids corner, flea market, food corner and  live music etc.

 

        Exhibitors/sellers can display/sale/exhibit various art  & handicraft items made of cane, Bamboo, wooden, paper pulp,  decorative items made of coconut, jute, paintings, terracotta work, live sketch work, Face & nail painting, Mhendi design   etc.  Re-usable crafts, (other than old and used items), decorative items, home appliances, bags, magazines, old books, antique furniture, chairs, old sofas, CDs, etc could also be displayed/sale besides local fresh fruits & flowers. The platform is also open for young and fledging youth to come forward and exhibit his/her talent before large gathering in the form of a dance and music.

 

        The Tourism Department will allot space to individuals, Vendors, Cultural Associations, Self help groups, NGOs, Farmer, Florist etc at Marina Park on rent free basis. Interested participants are requested to collect the participation form and terms & condition either from Directorate of Tourism or can download it from the official website i.e. www.and.nic.in, Tel.No 03192-244081. The filled up applications forms with relevant documents should reach the Director (Tourism) on or before 28/10/2014.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Cultural Festival ‘Virasat’ in November

 

        The Department of Art & Culture shall be organizing a two days cultural festival ‘Virasat’ at Port Blair on 23rd and 24th November 2014 in association with INTACH, Culture organizations Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre and Department of Tourism. In this regard Directorate of Art & Culture invites applications from the culture organization and other artist having good programmes which can be presentable in the proposed Culture festival. The last date of receipt of application is 3rd November 2014 in the Directorate of Art & Culture, Cellular Jail complex, Port Blair, A&N Administration. Application can also be faxed to 03192-231463/232637. A scrutiny of the programme shall be held on 6th November 2014 at Andaman Club, Port Blair. All India Civil Services Tournament

 

        The Central Civil Services Cultural and Sports Board (CCSCSB) under the Department of Personnel and Training, GOI in collaboration with the State and Union Territories every year organises All India Civil Services Tournament in various Sports Disciplines. These tournament are open to the Civilian employees of the Central and State Government/Union Territory Administrations. The Department may decide a team to participate in the AICS Basketball tournament held at New Delhi from 10th – 14th November, 2014.

 

        In order to field team consisting of Govt. emplyees working in A&N Islands for the above proposed championship, a selection trial will be conducted on 31st October to 01st November, 2014 between 06.00 am & 08.00 am and 04.00 pm & 06.00 pm at Basketball Court, Netaji Stadium, Port Blair. All concerned Heads of Office and Heads of Department are requested to send the list of Basketball players to attend the selection trial latest by 29.10.2014. The selected players will undergo Coaching Camp to be organised by the Department of Sports & Youth Affairs at Netaji Stadium, Port Blair.

 

        However, the following categories will not be eligible to take part in the All India Civil Services Basketball Tournament.

 

        1.  A newly recruited sportsman will not be allowed to take part in the AICS Tournament unless he has put a minimum service of 6 months in the regular establishment/services before the commencement of the tournament/competition.

        2.  Govt. employees attached to offices on temporary duty.

        3.  Uniform personnel in service/paramilitary/police/RPF.

        4.  Casual/Daily wages workers.

        5.   Public Sector undertaking and banks.

        6.  Inclusion of ineligible players in the AICS Tournament will lead to elimination of the team from the tournament.

 

        Further, the Govt. Servants taking part for selection trial must carry their Identity Card issued by their respective department.

        The concerned deptt. will bear the TA/DA for the participants, the Dept. Sports and Youth Affairs will bear the sports kits/equipment and also bear the coaching camp and selection trial expenditure.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Measures to ensure safe, wholesome food to consumers

 

        The District Food Safety Unit under the overall supervision of the District Magistrate, South Andaman is taking all measures to ensure safe and wholesome food to all consumers as guaranteed under Food Safety & Standards Act’ 2006.

 

        To prevent any untoward incidents during festival occasions, the District Magistrate have already constituted two separate teams headed by Additional District Magistrate and Sub-Divisional Magistrate, South Andaman. During Durga Pooja and Deepawali festivals, these teams visited and inspected almost all bake houses/sweet stalls situated at Port Blair and adjoining areas. During inspection and surprise checks few bake houses and sweet manufacturing units were found manufacturing/handling foods in un-hygienic conditions.

 

        Processing/handling food for human consumption in un-hygienic and in-sanitary conditions is an offence under the Act and is punishable with fine only. Accordingly, the concerned Food Safety Officers have been authorised to file application before the notified Adjudicating Officer for adjudication of offence against 06 bake houses/sweet manufacturing units.

 

        Further, 05 sample of khoa (milk solids) which is a main ingredient used in preparing milk based sweets were collected from different sweet manufacturing units have been already dispatched to a National Accreditation Board for Testing & Calibration of Laboratories (NABL) accredited laboratory situated at Kolkata for analysis and report. On receipt of analysis and report, in case any of the samples is found to be adulterated/sub-standard or un-safe, strict action shall be initiated against the sweet manufacturer under the provision of FSS Act’ 2006.
