Kargil Vijay Diwas

LG, others pay homage to martyrs

 

Port Blair, July 26: The Lt. Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) A. K. Singh, today led the Islanders in paying rich tributes to the Kargil martyrs who gallantly laid down their life for the nation in the 1999 Kargil conflict with Pakistan. To mark the occasion, a function was organized at the Kargil War Martyrs Memorial at Tagore Govt. College of Education, Port Blair here this morning. The Lt Governor laid a wreath at the memorial followed by the Commander-in-Chief, ANC, Vice Admiral P. K. Chatterjee, Chief Secretary, Shri Anand Prakash and others. 

 

        The ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’ is being observed across the country to commemorate “Operation Vijay” against Pakistani intruders and in memory of the martyrs who laid down their lives for the motherland in the Kargil War.  

 

        The Lt Governor also interacted with the trainees of Tagore College and students of Govt. Demonstration Multipurpose School. A pictorial exhibition of Kargil War Heroes was also displayed at the Memorial site.

 

        The Chairperson SSWB, Smt. Ratna Kannan, senior officers of the Defence and Civil Administration, members of Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha, public representatives, prominent citizens and a large gathering of students also paid tributes at the memorial. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Students from Govt. Secondary School, Delanipur, Port Blair accompanied by their school teachers visited Raj Niwas
