Lt. Governor approves enhancement of Scholarship/Stipend/Mess Charges

 

for School & College students – 50% hike to benefit 2300 students

 

 

 

 

As part of commitment of the Administration for welfare of students of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Hon’ble Lt. Governor has approved enhanced rates of scholarship/stipend/mess charges for students of schools as well as colleges, after obtaining approval of Hon’ble Lt. Governor. A Committee under the Chairmanship of Secretary (Education) consisting of Principal’s of Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidhyalya (JNRM), Tagore Govt. College of Education (TGCE), Mahatma Gandhi Govt. College (MGGC), Andaman College (ANCOL), Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology (DBRAIT), District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) and Deputy Director Education (Planning) considered various aspects including the increased cost of food items, the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) in view of required Kcal and the number of students and the financial implications involved  and had made the recommendations which were approved by Hon’ble Lt. Governor.

 

The revised rates are as follows:

 

I.      The existing maximum limit of Rs. 1,000/- (Rupees One Thousand only) per month being paid to the hostel inmates of school and colleges as reimbursement of mess charges be raised to Rs. 1,500/- (Rupees One Thousand Five Hundred only) per month. Stipend admissible for boys and girls will be Rs. 1,500/- (Rupees One Thousand Five Hundred only) per month.

 

II.      Students who are eligible but could not get hostel accommodation will be given Rs. 1,500/- (Rupees One Thousand Five Hundred only) per month at increased rate which was earlier Rs. 1,000/- (Rupees One Thousand only) per month subject to production of non-availability certificate.

 

III.      Students who are pursuing higher studies in mainland and staying in hostels should continue to be paid the existing rate of stipend i.e. Rs. 2,500/- (Rupees Two Thousand Five Hundred only) per month.

 

IV.      Students staying in mainland who are eligible for hostel facility but could not get hostel accommodation should also continue to get Rs. 2,500/- (Rupees Two Thousand Five Hundred only) per month.

 

V.      The students of A & N Islands staying in PDME Hostel of DBRAIT should also be reimbursed Rs. 1,500/- (Rupees One Thousand Five Hundred only) per month against the existing rate of Rs. 1,000/- (Rupees One Thousand only)

 

It is expected that the enhanced rate of Scholarship/ Stipend/ mess charges will involve additional financial liability of Rs. 1,15,69,500/- for the Administration during the year 2015 – 2016 but will benefit approximately 2300 students of schools and colleges, including those who are pursuing education in the mainland in such courses of higher education which are not available in the institutions of Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The new enhanced rates of scholarship/ stipend/ mess charges will be effective with effect from 01.04.2015.
