i)        Women whose husband has expired or whose husband's  whereabouts are not known for more than seven years or whose husband has been declared as dead by any Court or competent authority and who are permanent residents of  Union Territory of A & N Islands or are domiciled are have continuously  residing in this Union Territory of A & N more than 10 years at  the time of submitting the application. A certificate in this respect is to be obtained from the Revenue Authority or from the authority concerned who has been conferred with such powers to issue such certificates.

ii)       Woman whose income does not exceed Rs.900/- per month.

iii)      Women who is in receipt of financial assistance allowance from any other scheme from Govt./Local bodies /any individual/(s) will not be eligible for obtaining the allowance under this scheme. 


Application for "Widow allowance/Pension" shall be submitted in the prescribed form to the Director of Social Welfare, A & N Administration, Port Blair. The requisite application can be obtained free of cost from the office of the Directorate of Social Welfare, Port Blair. Such application form can also be had from every Tehsildar Office of A & N Islands and can be submitted to that office for its onward transmission (along with the verification report) to Director, Social Welfare, Port Blair. 


            It shall be the duty of the Director of Social Welfare to carry out detailed investigation regarding the claims and the financial position of the applicant and other details furnished by her regarding the genuineness of her claim, through the departmental officer duly authorized by the Administration as investigator for the said purpose and shall submit the report before the appropriate authority in writing assigning the reasons for ascertaining such genuinity on the basis of the evidence/documents for consideration by the Committee duly constituted by the Secretary (SW) in this regard.

            A committee of officials would be constituted to screen the claims and to recommend deserving and genuine cases. 


            The quantum of widow allowance shall be Rs.350/- per month and the applicant shall cease to receive the assistance if she is got remarried or become financially independent afterwards, which may be divulged by due enquiry or through records. 


The Director (Social Welfare), A & N Administration shall be the sanctioning authority who shall pass  orders on each case, on the basis of the verification report submitted by the departmental investigator appointed for the purpose and after obtaining the approval of Secretary (SW) and concurrence of Finance Department.
