Supply of food in Anganwadi Centres

 

            Under SNP commonly accepted food like 1) Khichdi / Pongal / Rajma Rice (Rice based) and Egg/ Chatpathi/ Green gram whole are supplied to beneficiaries. The food is prepared in AWCs by the Anganwadi Helpers, in the centre itself. As per the Supreme Court order, contractors were not engaged for supply of food in AWCs instead Self Help Group, Mahila Mondal, Village Community are engaged for supply of raw ration articles to the AWCs.

            Rice /Wheat or Ragi based Nutritious food are served in Anganwadi Centres and 500 plus calories energy is ensured in the beneficiary’s diet which contains enough carbohydrates, protein, fat and vegetable. Common menu applicable to all projects is prepared and food items are limited to 2-3 varieties.

           The main objective of the ICDS is reduction of prevalence of Mal Nutrition among Children and Women. This is being done by providing Supplementary Nutrition to the beneficiaries of Anganwadi Centres as hot cooked meal and Take Home Ration (THR) in the form of main meal is Pongal, Khichadi, Rajma Rice and morning snacks in the form of Chatpatti, Green gram whole and egg (twice a week). As per revised feeding norms an average of Rs. 8.50/- per normal children, Rs. 10.00/- pregnant and lactating mothers and Rs. 13.50/- for severely mal-nourished children has been sanctioned. The present status of Mal Nutrition is not alarming as compared to Main Land. The total calorific value provided to each category as follows.
