7001 Nos. permanent shelters have been constructed in the Nicobar District. Entire 3941 permanent shelters at Car Nicobar have been handed over to the Tsunami affected beneficiaries of Car Nicobar. Out of 1954 Permanent Shelters constructed at Nancowry group of islands, 1869 permanent shelter have already been distributed among the beneficiaries after due verification. In the Campbell Bay Sub-division 1106 permanent shelters have been constructed out of which 1008 permanent shelters have been distributed to the beneficiaries.
In all, 7001 permanent shelters have been constructed in the District of Nicobar out of which 6816 permanent shelters have already been distributed to the Tsunami affected beneficiaries constituting 97.4%.
Such a massive reconstruction and rehabilitation of Tsunami affected population has significantly reduced the vulnerability of the Nicobari tribal population to sea borne disaster.
